Why I Started Who Is She Wearing—How Cancer, Fashion, and Giving Back Changed My Life
In 2021, my life took an unexpected turn.
After years of struggling with health issues, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer – it felt like the cherry on top. Facing surgery, uncertainty, and the emotional toll of it all, I had no idea how much this experience would change me—not just physically but in ways that would reshape my purpose.
In the months following my surgery, I lost a significant amount of weight. My body had changed, my perspective had shifted, and suddenly, my closet was full of clothes that no longer fit—physically or emotionally.
I had spent years collecting beautiful designer pieces, pieces tied to incredible memories—photoshoots, red carpet events, and moments that shaped my career. But as I looked at my wardrobe, I realized something: these clothes deserved a second life.
Instead of sitting untouched, they could be loved by someone else. That’s when I had the idea for Who Is She Wearing (WISW)—a platform that blends fashion, sustainability, and giving back.
This wasn’t just about selling my closet. It was about creating a space where high-end fashion is accessible, sustainability is prioritized, and every purchase makes a difference.
A New Way to Think About Fashion—Sustainability Meets Giving Back
I’ve always loved fashion. It’s how I express myself, how I tell my story. But after my cancer journey, I saw firsthand how much waste exists in the industry. We buy, we collect, we store, and yet so many pieces are barely worn before they’re forgotten.
With Who Is She Wearing, I wanted to change that.
Sustainability First:
WISW is all about circular fashion. Instead of letting designer pieces go to waste, we give them a second life. When you shop on WISW, you’re choosing pre-loved fashion, reducing environmental impact, and breaking the cycle of overconsumption.
Accessible Luxury:
Let’s be real—designer fashion is expensive. But I believe everyone deserves to own something special, something that makes them feel amazing. That’s why we offer pieces in a range of sizes (XS-XL) and price points, making high-end fashion more inclusive.
A Closet That Gives Back:
More than anything, I wanted WISW to have purpose. That’s why a portion of every sale supports causes that matter—starting with Walk With Sally.
Giving Back to Families Affected by Cancer
Cancer didn’t just change my life—it opened my eyes to how deeply it affects families.
That’s why Walk With Sally immediately resonated with me. This incredible nonprofit provides mentorship and emotional support to children who have lost a parent to cancer or are watching a loved one fight for their life. I was drawn to their mission of helping kids not feel alone in the face of something so scary.
Through WISW, I wanted to do more than just raise awareness—I wanted to take action.
The Walk With Sally Shoppe:
We put the ‘HOPE’ in shoppe. We donate select pieces from my closet directly to their Shoppe, where families impacted by cancer who are living below the poverty line can access clothing, accessories, and essentials for free.
Your Purchase = Real Impact:
Every time someone shops on WISW, a portion of the proceeds goes toward supporting families who need it most.
Emergency Fire Fund:
We’ve also expanded our mission to support families affected by the devastating California wildfires, proving that fashion can truly be a force for good.
This isn’t just about clothes—it’s about creating hope through fashion.
My Best Closet Cleanout Tips—Because Fashion Should Work For You
I know what it’s like to stand in front of a closet full of things that no longer serve you. Whether your style has evolved, your body has changed, or you’re simply ready for a fresh start, here are my top tips for a mindful closet cleanout:
+ Follow the “One-Year Rule” – If you haven’t worn it in a year, it’s time to let it go.
+ Think Beyond the Price Tag – Just because something was expensive doesn’t mean it deserves a permanent spot in your closet.
+ Invest in Quality Over Quantity – Instead of fast fashion, choose timeless, well-made pieces that will last for years.
+ Donate or Resell with Purpose – Whether you donate to Walk With Sally, sell on WISW, or pass pieces down to friends, let your fashion have an impact.
Your wardrobe should reflect who you are right now—not who you were years ago.
