One of Canada’s top NCAA football players plans to finish his college career at a new school.
Defensive back Jett Elad posted on social media on Tuesday he will enter the NCAA transfer portal after playing at UNLV the past two years.
Elad, from Mississauga, Ont., started his collegiate career at Ohio from 2020-21 before spending one year at Garden City Community College in Kansas and two at UNLV. A recent NCAA rule change on junior-college years allows Elad to play one more season at college.
Elad was an honourable mention Mountain West Conference all-star this season, along with being a finalist for the Jon Cornish Trophy as top Canadian in the NCAA for a second year in a row.
Elad posted a career-high 84 tackles in 14 games this season, along with one sack and one interception. He had 11 tackles and a fumble recovery in UNLV’s win over California in the LA Bowl earlier this month.
UNLV finished (11-3), falling one win short of the College Football Playoff after losing to favoured Boise State in the Mountain West final.
