Michael Maguire has admitted he is leaning on the big-game experience of Latrell Mitchell as the Blues fight to keep the Origin series alive.
After a devastating loss in game one, NSW have made a host of changes for the clash at the MCG, including the return of the enigmatic Rabbitohs stars.
Speaking at the press conference on Tuesday, Maguire was full of praise for the 27-year-old and hopes the “perception” of him changes after a big performance.
“I’ve been so pleased for Latrell,” he said.
“The way he’s come in, I think all the players really enjoy having him around and he’s in a really good space at the moment. People build perceptions and things like that, but he’s been awesome. He’s come in, been one of the boys and rallied around and enjoyed camp.
“He’s been really good at training, he has a lot of experience too in this space, he has played at the highest level.”
The other key changes to the side will see Mitchell Moses and Cameron Murray return after missing the series opener due to injury.
Maguire is counting on the Eels halfback to guide the Blues towards a crucial win.
“Mitch played in that last game last year and I think he got a lot of confidence out of that one and the way he steered the team around,” he said.
“I’ve drawn on that and have been talking to Mitch about how he’s come into the group, he has been really strong. I’ve had a lot of conversations with Mitch up until the selection for this series. He was always close and he’s always been a part of my thoughts
“He’s come in and added a lot to the team along with Cam Murray as well. All of the players I’ve brought in have brought experience to us and they’ve all played in big games, so that’s going to be a big positive for us.”
