Plot:
Duff Daniels (John T. Woods), the younger, stupider brother of Les (Michael Shanks), can’t help himself from stealing a rare snake that’s been kept in a jar by a Native American snake dealer (Ben Cardinal), and which has to follow some rules: don’t let it out of the jar, then don’t let it eat anything living, and never fear the heart of the snake…
Reviews:
“Sci-Fi Channel creature features are often fairly formulaic – and Mega Snake is no exception. But what it does, it does pretty well. There’s nothing really bad about it and a few bits are actually good, plus the problematic stuff – like the main character’s claimed but non-existent phobia of snakes – are no great hindrance to enjoyment.” Cult films and the people who make them
” …Mega Snake plays out like every snake flick the Sci-Fi Channel has ever aired with people getting picked off at random and a whole lot of trotting about the woods. Only thing this one adds to the mix is an extra added layer of bad Southern stereotypes and a lamebrained soap opera subplot between Les, Erin, the dorky town sheriff Erin dates to make Les jealous, and the blonde paramedic with the hots for Les that makes Erin jealous.” ★½ Dread Central
” …even though Mega Snake played out exactly as I knew it would, I still find myself being mildly entertained by it all. Mega Snake didn’t promise me the world and I wasn’t expecting it. It promised me a mega snake and that’s exactly what it gave me. So if you’re an undemanding lover of giant snake movies, you’ll find something to like in Mega Snake. 2 out of 4, Doctor Gore’s Movie Reviews
“Supporting performances are very variable, with lacklustre work sometimes wasting characters with good comedy potential. Whilst the leads approach the film with the enthusiasm it needs, some of the bit-parters look as if they’re just filling time. The script is a mess. Beyond what it steals from Gremlins, it badly lacks direction and feels like a series of sketches clumsily linked together and awkwardly padded out.” ★ Eye for Film
” …when you take Mega Snake at face value it is still a pretty bad movie. A better CGI snake doesn’t make it good CGI. Better acting than those other snake movies doesn’t make it good acting. But we aren’t taking it at face value over here and are forced to comparing Mega Snake to its contemporaries, and in this instance it stands heads and tails above. Plus it was funny. Film Critics United
“It’s no world beater, but this movie has fun with its old-school creature feature premise, and even finds occasional new wrinkles, including a climax in which our heroes have to defeat the snake from within, having willingly gotten themselves swallowed. The dialogue favors lines like “This is definitely the work of a giant snake!” and gets the kind of sincere deadpan delivery the genre demands.” The Horror Review
“This movie takes place in Tennessee… British Columbia. I’m from the south and those accents were awful. Ignoring that, the movie had its wit and the cast actually had chemistry. Surprisingly, I was actually impressed with the animation of the snake and how it fit into the scenes.” The SciFi Ranter Girl
” …the dialogue is lackluster and pedestrian. Even the heroes sound like idiots. The actors did what they could with the material given, but as the title implies, the movie is really about watching a giant and fast-growing snake devour the town’s populace. And, that is the saving grace for Mega Snake, the special effects.” TVaholic
“I guess the money that would’ve gone to hiring a “name” actor went to the special effects because the CGI snake in this flick isn’t half bad. The effects team blends the practical and digital snake together more or less seamlessly and the briefly seen gore ain’t too shabby either. There’s a great scene where the snake wraps itself around it’s victim so tight that his brains shoot out the top of his head.” ★★★ The Video Vacuum
