The Dallas Mavericks made one of the biggest moves of the offseason.
While everybody’s talking about Paul George joining the Philadelphia 76ers and rightfully so, getting Klay Thompson to Dallas could end up being even more impactful.
How’s that?
Well, a team fresh off a trip to the NBA Finals just solved the most glaring need they had on their roster.
Making a run at Thompson was a ‘no-brainer,’ according to Mavericks GM Nico Harrison.
Talking during the Mavs’ Summer League game vs. the Utah Jazz, Harrison stated that the team knew that they were ‘a Klay Thompson away’ from winning the NBA Finals, as they struggled mightily from beyond the arc vs. the Boston Celtics.
“It was a no-brainer for us, especially after the finals. We knew we were a Klay Thompson away.”

While some fans only remember him for going 0-for-10 in his final game with the Golden State Warriors, Thompson actually shot 42% from beyond the arc after the All-Star break.
He finished the season with the second-most three-pointers made after the All-Star break.
The Mavericks lost just nine of their final 33 regular-season games, and having Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in the backcourt should grant Thompson several wide-open shots.
Shooters are streaky, and there will be some cold stretches for Thompson, who’s no longer the defensive pest he used to be.
Even so, when you have an opportunity to add one of the three greatest three-point shooters the game of basketball has ever seen, you just go for it, especially if he’s going to arrive at a major discount because of his market — or lack thereof.
