The Design District in Miami is a place that shows off true elegance, one where visitors can spend a day exploring upscale stores while surrounding themselves with a selection of fine dining options. Once you visit, you can browse inside stores such as Tiffany & Company, Gucci, Birkenstock andmany other stores that will tempt you to treat yourself while surrounded by luxury.
What if I told you that you can also enjoy a luxurious environment and experience at a unique restaurant inside of the Design District’s Moore Building? I’m guessing this would make you curious as you excitedly plan your visit to the area.
What if I also said to you that this experience is one where you will try out dishes that are as creative as they are delicious, ones that perfectly pair up with the food. And all of this while enhancing the flavors of the dishes presented.
This restaurant is called Elastika, and it will blow your mind.
When I visited, I found myself in awe at the interior of the restaurant and its beauty. The architecture is stunning and will make you feel as if you are dining inside an elegant museum where intricate art is placed on its walls, art that will leave you thinking and coming up with your own conclusion as to what it means to you and others. Then there are the chairs, many boasting green and orange fall colors, offering those who sit down a moment of relaxation.
As for the mentioned art, the experience begins by seeing an impressive Elastika sculpture that represents the dining establishment. When it comes to the additional artwork and design that you’ll see, they are a collection of contemporary art curated by Miami-based art advisor Monica Kalpakian. Two important pieces presented at the restaurant are Rob Pruitt’s US(detail), 2013, which is on loan from the collection of the late art collector and an important part of Miami’s cultural community, Rosa de la Cruz.
When it comes to the food, Executive Chef Joe Anthony takes the art concept seriously when it comes to his dishes. Chef Joe Anthony is back home now from New York, a Florida native that is bringing his advanced expertise to Elastika. And it shows that he has poured his heart and soul into the food and the dining experience.
His talent truly shines with globally eclectic dishes, including the Heirloom Tomato Gazpacho with pickled tomatillos, avocado and fennel pollen focaccia; the Citrus Cured Kingfish Crudo with fermented farro, local kohlrabi and cucumber “aguachile;” a Grass-Fed Bison Tartare, with escabeche aioli, umami crumble and house-made country loaf; Eggplant and Sheep’s Milk Ravioli Serviettes, with spring fricassee, local mushrooms and pine nut froth; Grilled Heritage Pork “Ribeye” with tiny farm’s turnips, grilled broccoli rabe and red verjus-cardamom sauce; and the Miso Marinated Beef Tenderloin, with Castle Valley Mill’s farro, local herb coulis and carrot “hot sauce.”
As for cocktails and wines, the list is impressive. While there, the server was glad to provide us with ideas of what would match well with each dish. This included classic cocktails with a twist, such as an Old-Fashioned and Mezcal-based cocktail. As for the wines, the list is extensive and special, so we highly recommend chatting with the knowledgeable staff and have them steer you in the right direction and pairing.
As for your time at the restaurant, you will quickly notice that these are dishes made with care, with all ingredients being fresh. Chef Joe Anthony works with local farms such as Tiny Farms and Fresh Farms to make sure that those who visit get a delectable experience while tasting the food. He works closely with farmers to make sure that he picks the best of the best for his dishes.
While dining surrounded by beauty is amazing, it’s important that the dishes served stand-out with their own type of beauty and elegance. Here, the way the food is presented is very similar as to visiting a theater, where the music and the acting perfectly complements each act. And this is why Elastika is a must-visit for those seeking an experience filled with class and sophistication.
