LONDON — U.Okay. retail gross sales volumes dropped 2.3% in April as moist climate deterred consumers, the Workplace for Nationwide Statistics stated Friday.
Economists polled by Reuters anticipated a smaller fall of 0.4%.
“Gross sales volumes fell throughout most sectors, with clothes retailers, sports activities tools, video games and toys shops, and furnishings shops doing badly as poor climate lowered footfall,” the ONS stated.
March’s determine was revised from flat to a 0.2% decline.
