Michael Igbinoghene‘s college decision is in.
Igbinoghene, a three-star cornerback out of Trussville (Ala.) Hewitt Trussville High School in Alabama, committed to Tulane on Thursday. The Green Wave edged out UCF and Vanderbilt for the 5-foot-10, 180-pound CB with blazing speed after continuing to keep their feet on the gas into his senior season.
“I knew Tulane was the right fit for me because of the way they run their defense,” Igbinoghene told Rivals. “The way they coach their guys and the endless hard work that they put in to be the best version of themselves … I wanted to be a part of that. I want to be a part of a great program that has a chance of making the College Football Playoff!.”
Green Wave defensive backs coach J.J. McClesky ran point in the Alabama-based cornerback’s recruitment. Head coach Jon Sumrall also lent a hand recruiting one of the top cornerbacks from an area he’s familiar with.
“The connection with the coaches were great. Coach Sumrall and Coach JJ showed me genuine love — and so the whole coaching staff. It felt like family,” Igbinoghene detailed.
“When I visited Tulane, as soon as i stepped on campus it was love,” he continued. “My family also felt the connection as they treated us with the best hospitality. When that happened, I knew this was the right decision for me.”
Tulane began turning a corner in Igbinoghene’s recruitment late this summer and separated in recent weeks as he moved toward the finish line of this process.
He called it an easy decision.
“Tulane stood out to me because they believed in me from the start. They also didn’t let my height play a factor in my athletic ability, which most of these schools thought was a problem,” said Igbinoghene, who timed a 4.51-second in the 40-yard dash and a 10.75-second 100-meter.
“It was an easy decision, especially with the way they set the bar high and never stopped believing in me. That’s what I loved about them,” he added. “I know that i would get coached hard and they will get me ready to play at the next level.
Iginoghene will get another preview of life in Uptown New Orleans during his official visit to Tulane scheduled for October 18-20 weekend.
