REBEL SIGNEE NAMED MICHIGAN GATORADE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Incoming freshman Jenny Bressler tabbed Michigan’s top high school player for the 2018 season

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV softball incoming freshman Jenny Bressler has been named the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Michigan for the 2018 season.

Bressler, a pitcher from Canton, Michigan, signed a National Letter of Intent with the Rebels in November and will join the program this upcoming fall. Bressler has started for Plymouth High School since she was a freshman and recently helped the Wildcats win their fourth straight district title after throwing a no-hitter and blasting a three-run home run in the district semifinal game. Heading into the district playoffs, the right-hander had recorded an 18-3 record with a 1.20 ERA to go along with 194 strikeouts in 128.2 innings pitched. Bressler is not only productive in the circle, but at the plate as well as she has been one of Plymouth’s top hitters this year with a .456 batting average, a .777 slugging percentage, 15 doubles and 37 RBI heading into the state tournament. She is the first player from the Plymouth HS softball program to earn the honor.

Overall, Bressler has led the Wildcats to a 106-22 record during her four-year career, which has included three league championships, four district championship and one regional title. She is a three-time all-conference, all-district and all-region selection and a two-time first team all-state selection with the 2018 honors still to be announced at the conclusion of the season. Bressler was also very active at the club level, playing for three organizations since 2013 – Michigan Pride, Beverly Bandits and Michigan Finesse – and winning national championships with the Bandits and Finesse in 2017.

Bressler, one of three signed in head coach Kristie Fox’s first UNLV recruiting class, is expected to be a key addition to the program as the Rebels will have to replace super senior and NFCA All-Region performer Janine Petmecky, who had a monster year in the circle and at the plate this spring.
